Hi all: Just touching bases with every one. Still haven't found a Quaker . I saw one on craigs list in Birmingham AL. about a hour from where I live. The add said he has had the bird for a week and that he got him from some guy who kept him out side in a shed, And he was looking for a good home for him. He was asking 200.00 for him, and that the cage came with him. I text him to see if he still had him, He said yes and that he hasn't changed his add yet, he was now 350.00. He said he had a 200 dollar cage a small carrier and 2 bags of food. I Told him thanks but it was out of my price range. He text me two days later and said some backed out and he would take 250.00. I thought about it but I don't know if I can trust this person. I checked earlier his add is still up for the original price.
On another note, it's amazing how time fly's. I thought I had Skippy for 5 years. My wife found a receipt from when I bought her in April of 08.
Take Care All, Ken

I'm very iffy on Craigslist. I would personally find a way to adopt, or buy from a reputable breeder. All in all I would be patient. The right bird will come along and you'll know when it happens. I would run from this person. Too many shady things going on. I'm sorry if I missed something, and you've already tried my suggestions. I hope you find a new fid soon. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Hi Ken, thanks for staying in touch. I was wondering how you are going. I have no experience with Craigslist or anything outside Australia. Ricky might be right - the guy sounds a little questionable. But I guess it depends on whether you are willing to adopt a quaker that may have issues you don't know about. You may be his/her saviour! If I were you I would try to get him to stick to the original price of $200. But you should trust your own instincts on the whole thing. Hope everything goes OK!

Too many variables..but may be worth it. Lots of good folks sell on Craigslist, just some bad folks mixed in. Depending on the cage size and make, could be worth it..age and health of the bird would obviously be primary..i bought a California cage at a garage sale for 70 bucks.was in great shape and only a couple years old. Same size is 400 new. All that aside,I was wondering if you could make contact with the guy he got him from. Maybe then, you can make a better decision..keeping him in a shed doesn't bode well for the birds ' well being tho, and you don't want to walk into huge vet bills going forward. Best of luck on your search ! Cheers!

That one does sound a little suspicious, but don't give up. Sooner or later, you'll find the right QP for you. It's fine to look on Craigslist, but be cautious. There are a lot of scammers there-- I've run into a few myself-- but there are legitimate advertisers too. If any advertiser doesn't seem "right" to you, trust your instincts.

Ken... Wondering if you found your new bird family member. I'm new to this site, so I just saw your post. If you haven't been successful and want to adopt, there are sites you can find if you google QP adoptions. I found one a while back but can't remember the name. There are reputable sites that do adoptions. I hope you didn't go with the Craigslist guy. He really does sound iffy. I got my QP from a breeder. I found the best possible fit for our family that way. Best to you!

I don't care for the way he jumped the price on you then suddenly brought it down when you called back. Just an FYI, I'm in Florida. Craigslist can be good but when they start playing with pricing, I would be careful. Sounds a bit suspicious, plus, this little guy was in a shed? That's no way to keep a bird! If the bird is for real he might have some issues both health and temperament wise. To be safe I suggest you do your research and find a reputable breeder/seller so you are certain of what you are getting. Best wishes!

Oops. Just saw the date on the post. Sorry I'm late, it came up as "New" so I didn't look further. Hope all worked out well for you and your FID!
