Benjy's beak overgrows due to an old injury -- it doesn't sit quite flush so he doesn't wear it down like the others do -- which means I have to trim it periodically. He hates that, and I wouldn't say I like it myself, but it's gotta be done. Usually, he's mad for hours afterward, so I do it right before bedtime and by morning he's forgotten he's mad. I did it on Saturday night this week. I turned down the lights and everybody got ready for bed and then I scooped Benjy up and wrapped him in a washcloth and took him to the bathroom where the light is best. He's such a little thing that nail clippers do the trick. It takes maybe 30 seconds and that includes scooping him up and taking him in there and taking him back to the bird room. The entire PROCESS is maybe 30 seconds. I hold his head between two fingers, snip the excess with one snip and we're done. But you would think I tortured him for hours just to be mean. He gets SO mad. LOL And I KNOW it doesn't hurt. It's like clipping a fingernail. I can see quite well where the quick is and I snip well below that.
Sure enough, he was outraged when I put him down in the birds' room afterward but on Sunday morning when I went in to open their curtains, he was all over me wanting to sit on me just as usual. Forgot all about being mad. What's also funny about this is that Clyde gets just as mad, but I don't know if he's mad on Benjy's behalf or he's mad that I'm taking Benjy somewhere and not him.
