So finally I talked myself into cleaning Oscar Big Cage... the one with his thousands of tie wraps in it that we call his house.
While working on the cage Oscar did not approve very much. He sat in the kitchen on his other large cage and screamed a little but mostly just stared at me... like "What are you doing?"
As all the tie wraps were washed and rinsed they were laid out on large towels on the kitchen floor. This did not please Oscar at all and he was actually scared to see them like this.
Unfortunately, husband was not around to help so this took me 3 hours. Every little thing got cleaned and it looked like a new cage when I was done. Whewww... big job.
I clean this cage daily but usually just clean the top part or wipe any poop that I can see. After a few months however, it does get dusty inside so it needs the big washing.
That evening Oscar did not want to go in because it did not have any tie wraps in it but I put him in anyway and told him to go to bed. The next morning he wanted out when I got up at 5:00 a.m. and he usually will stay in there quiet until 6:00 a.m.
The next day I gathered all the tie wraps and Oscar was really screaming at me. I guess he was really confused. I put some of them back on the coffee table and within an hour he decided time to start building his house again... lol. I helped him a little and I could tell he liked that because I can put 10 in at one time and he can only carry one.
Needless to say his house is half built now and he is having a great time carrying the tie wraps one at a time and putting them carefully into place. Of course every now and again he comes and gets a tie wrap, then walks over to me and asks for a ride back inside the cage... which I always do.
He is once again content... and still very clean... lol. I think we are good for a few more months now. Man it is a big job!
