The vet is closed today and I woke up to Ollie pulling a scab off a feather, now it's bleeding, there's no blood on the bottom of the cage except where the scab fell. But the feather looks red at the tip, I can't towel him b/c he freaks out and flaps around if I bring a towel in his cage:( I put some corn starch on his wing but he looks tired. I'm not sure even this feather bled since there isn't blood anywhere in the cage. I have electrolyte popsicles for children and babies, can I give that to him? Is there anything else I can give him? He isn't picking at it but screamed for me to come into the room a few minutes ago b/c I think he rubbed it on something. We have a few animal hospitals but last time they had no avian vets. We had to drive out of the city for our vet but she's closed today. And it might also be another growth, we changed his diet so he has no sunflower and 80% pellets (trying to get full pellets) and a lot of veggies.

How's Ollie doing now? I think if your bird breaks a blood feather, the best way to stop the bleeding is to pull out the feather But that might be hard if you are unsure. Hope he has fixed it himself

Hi Hannah, I've no experience with this sort of thing, but Easttex would be a good person to ask...hopefully she'll see this post soon, or else maybe you could Message her.

He hadn't touched it again and I've seen no blood even on the feather. I saw a feather on the bottom of the cage with a little bit of blood on the shaft, I'm not sure if he pulled it out

Possibly good news I gave Ollie beets, I don't normally give him them, turns out the stuff on the bottom wasn't blood it was beets and there's possibility he wasn't bleeding he just had beets on his mouth with water well grooming.

He brushed his tail on his sand paper perch, I've taken it out so he doesn't do it again.

Maybe make a vet booking? If you are able to get there it might be best to get Ollie checked out.

He's been really active today and there's no fresh blood on the feather, I'm hoping that it won't happen again. It also looks like he's groomed it because the feather is almost green as to red or brown.

He sure has given you some worries, hasn't he? Poor little guy, he was lucky when he found his way to you.

He sure has given you some worries, hasn't he? Poor little guy, he was lucky when he found his way to you. He also hasn't been as jumpy, he use 2 have a terror if you walked into the room and he was eating but now he's used 2 it, plus I can pet his head sometimes. I know his previous owners were abusive and he can't fly because of them because it wasn't set properly, tehvet even suspected he was amputated because it was that bad when she saw him. The shelter told us they had to wash him and the budgies he was brought in with and he still has droppings on his feathers, for the first few weeks we had him he stunk but thankfully we sprayed him every few days and he was clean.
