That's so funny... Cupcake is totally silent unless she wants to make noise, which is fairly rare. She can be pretty sneaky, although we are pretty well-tuned to hearing the sound of her wings flapping.

When Yoshi does feel like he has to use his wings, he always screams. I've come to know the scream as his "pissed off" scream. Usually the only time he uses them (since clipped, and before growing flight feathers) was when he thinks he is going to fall, or loses his balance.

Pretty cute. I wonder if he would grow out of that if he did learn to fully fly If not, it certainly would be helpful

Hahaha, it is hilarious though! Maya has started doing this thing where I'll go to walk out of the room and say "you coming, Maya?" and she looks at me defiantly, and then I'll say "ok then, bye!" and walk out of the room and she flies after me in a squealing panic and lands on my shoulder. It reminds me of a two year old who doesn't want to leave the playground and then panics when its parents pretend to leave it behind. She is funny. I have to admit, there are some things about having her flighted which are much harder. It's more difficult to keep her in one place without some form of bribery and we have to be a lot more careful about closing doors when we don't want her to follow us into certain rooms (like a hot kitchen with the hob on and boiling water in pans! But it's also really lovely that she can be so much more independent, she flies to me to check out what I'm doing, then trundles over to visit David, then flies back to her stand for a snack. Sh's definitely less frustrated now that she's more mobile and she seems to have twigged about windows and mirrors.
She's also starting to improve at flying down! She still freaks out if she gets too much lift and there's not a suitable perch at that height, but she is getting a lot more skilled with it and we encourage her to fly between two points as much as possible to help her practise approaching and landing. It's quite good fun actually! She does also look EXTREMELY CUTE in her hoodie! photos to come...

Lol, Yoshi has started being a bit defiant like that as well. Just in the past couple weeks, he's getting to where he doesn't want to leave the shower. He chills on the shower head every day when I shower (if I don't bring him along, I get screamed at for a very long time). Here lately he doesn't want to step up when I'm finished. I've finally had to start saying "don't you want some food?". He knows the word food, and should know by now that we always eat right after taking a shower, but I guess I have to remind him, or maybe reassure him that food is coming. Once I talk about food tho, he will step right up lol.
I'm still looking forward to the pics of Maya in the hoodie!

Lol, Yoshi has started being a bit defiant like that as well. Bonnie mastered 'defiant' a LONG time ago... She's been feistier than usual in the last couple of weeks and is actually swooping at our heads on and off. I think it's hormones, as the other day I spotted her rubbing up against one of her toys. Needless to say, that toy will not be in her day cage tomorrow. Naughty girl.

It definitely gets easier to keep them in one place though... Cupcake was fairly unpredictable for a long time... but eventually she came around and became rather predictable, despite being flighted. It did take a long time, but we haven't really made a concerted effort to train her like you have with Maya, and I would imagine if you apply that diligence to this problem you'll solve it faster than we did. It's really great to have them more independent-- I love to see Cupcake go where she wants to go without needing us. But yes, even having a guest over briefly is risky because of the door closing thing... Everyone in the house needs to be trained to look at the top of a door before closing it. My mom was in our apartment for 15 minutes a few months ago and nearly closed Cupcake in a door. And she spends time with Cupcake regularly (just has a situation in her house that doesn't involve doors closing in the area where Cupcake stays)... So many hazards and risks. Totally worth it for us though.
