Hello everyone! I've been thinking for a while now of getting Maya a bigger cage. Her current cage is not small and so it is not urgent, but I've found this cage: www.amazon.co.uk/Popamazing-Parrot-Large-inches-Height/dp/B01G8MP27Y/ref=pd_sim_sbs_199_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=C2A2V8R4MR907Z2Z26PE which is huge. It is made of iron and powder coated and those who have bought it seem to have had a really good experience. It is really lovely and roomy, and big enough for her to a short distance from one end to the other once her wings grow back. I really want to give her the most space I possibly can for when I can't take her with me to work during the day. I have two questions: 1) Do you think the cage looks ok? I was a bit unsure about the upwards sliding feeder doors, but have decided to buy some small padlocks to secure them closed so Maya can't lift them up and trap herself underneath them. 2) If the cage is ok and I do go ahead with buying it, what is the best way to acclimatise Maya to her new home? I don't want to stress her out by just moving her straight from her old cage into the new one, so I was planning on leaving the new cage in the room for a few days so she could see it from the old one, encouraging her to play inside it, then gradually moving her toys and perches across and eventually moving her into the new cage. Do you think this will be ok? Is there anything I should consider? Thanks in advance!

That looks very similar to A&E cages, which are quite nice. The feeder doors may be an issue for escapes, but I think it will depend on your quaker. Securing them would be a good idea, but even better would be to find one with doors like this one: www.kingscages.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=9002422Unfortunately I am not familiar with cages in the UK. As far as acclimatizing, I'd keep it next to her old one and start just letting her go in on her own to explore during playtime. Some favorite toys and treats hidden in them would make it fun. Otherwise you seem to have the right idea Hope whichever way you go that you enjoy the new cage!

I like the one that you picked Louise... however, if you can find one that has feeders on the top... those are good too and they help keep the mess down. That cage is not too big. When I stand beside Oscar's cage it is higher than me and I am 5'4"... and he likes it.
What quakerfriend said is correct. Place the cage beside Maya's current cage and leave it open. She will eventually go and explore it. I did this with Oscar and left the cage there for about a week... and slowly transferred one item at a time over. He took to it very well.
I like having a big front door to the cage as I can get larger things in easier. If I wanted to put a bowl for Oscar to bath in... I could.
Good Luck.
