I tried the extra small for our QP, Bonnie. I got her used to seeing/playing tug-of-war with it, then when the day finally came to try it on she got a noise fright and hasn't been able to look at it since...at the time she weighed about 95 grams.

I don't think too many members on here have had any luck with the harness.... and most of us have tried. Quakers just seem to be terrified of it no matter how much we try to coach them to wear it. Just hope you aren't wasting your money.
Best of luck.

Hi! I tried x small as well. Quick note, it IS possible to teach a qp to wear one of these but DON'T FOLLOW THE DVD INSTRUCTIONS THAT COME WITH IT! That's where I went drastically wrong. Look into the parrot wizard. He has a really good dvd to help with clear conditioning, and do not try to put it on your bird before your bird is conditioned to seeing it! Slowly slowly is the key. I bought Maya a flight suit, which we are conditioning her to now. You can also get flight vests from www.diapersforbirds.com that don't diaper the vent. Aviators do work, but they take a lot of time to train so be very patient and research every avenue before you start training!

It may well take you over two months or more to teach your birdie, but it IS possible. It just takes a lot of patience. I'm still training Maya and she will now put her head through the harness and let it rest on her back when she's in a really good mood. I think the flight suit might work better for her as she doesn't like things going over her head, but we'll see. Good luck!

Just seen this, but well done! That's brilliant! I'm working on getting Maya used to the flightsuit. She's not a fan at the moment, but with all birds, it takes time Sounds like you're doing great!

Hi everyone,
I would love to get a harness for Normy, he is 6 months old today and would like to start the training while he is still young. Can anyone recommend a certain brand or style? I don't mind the cost, I just want to buy a safe one.
Thanks!!

This is the best known harness: theparrotuniversity.com/content/aviator-bird-harnessYou can shop around on the price, as they're also available from Amazon and drsfostersmith.com, and probably others. Even at at six months, Yoshi may be resistant to it for quite a while, so be prepared to be patient and go very slowly.

Starry is 11 so I am not sure the hope but she is actually very tolerable of stuff on her back.
I would love to eventually take her outside, what would be the best method for her? A harness or a carrier type thing (pak o bird?)

We tried the Aviator harness, but Bonnie didn't react well to it. I also got her a flightsuit which was progressing much better (and the design seems easier to get on and off the bird), but it got thrown out accidentally and I'm ordering another. The flightsuit was from: www.bird-diaper.comAaron put me onto a backpack carrier from www.celltei.com which I am considering purchasing when I have some spare funds.

When Oscar goes outside it is usually just to sit in the backyard so I have a cage that I will take out for that purpose. If I want him to go anywhere else... I just tuck him in my jacket and jump into a vehicle. He does not fly so I have that advantage. I know he can fly a little but if I sit with him at the table outside... he does not leave my side. He is a true chicken of everything.. and Mommy is the safe place. lol
