I finally got fitted for hearing aids (it's something I've needed for a long time now), and should be getting them in a week or a little more. I'm concerned about how Yoshi will react to them. I already know he's going to want to chew the crap out of them.
Has anyone else here ran into this problem, and possibly have some advice? Worst case I guess is that I just have to remember to take them out when I'm handling him. I just know I'm going to forget some time tho, and these are far too expensive to allow him to destroy.

The one way I can get Oscar to stop chewing on things on my face... is to use my hair as a shield. I am not sure if you have long enough hair... but if you do and you can pull it forward to cover your ears... you will find that Yoshi may stay away from it. Oscar totally hates to have my hair touch him... especially his feet. I am fortunate to have very long hair so this works great for me.
Another way... is to constantly put your hand up... flat like... behind your ear as soon as he tries to get your hearing aid. Always say NO... and be very consistent. Eventually he will understand... but it does take a while. Oscar is slowly learning what NO means... but trust me when I say... I have been saying NO... for years. If Yoshi does get your hearing aid (at some point he probably will) ... be stern with him and be sure to put him off your shoulder immediately... and repeat.. No... No...

I wouldn't put him on your shoulder for a while. I saw Shah rip out an earring from someone's ear after I warned them not to put him on their shoulder. He moved very quickly and there was no way to stop him. I rarely put Shah on my shoulder, preferring to do things one handed. The reason for this is that he has taken a couple of chunks out of my nose and will bite my face if I do something he doesn't like. However, you know what Yoshi is like, so the decision is yours to make

I might keep him off your shoulder too, if he managed to pull a battery out fast that would be very dangerous for him. Maybe Yoshi won't bother or notice, or you will find him noisy and take them out when he is close anyway. Sorry I am not much help.... Fingers crossed he doesn't care.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I was afraid it might come down to not allowing him on my shoulder. Which is going to be really tough for both of us. He spends at least a few hours a day on my shoulder. His cage is right by my desk, and he's got a perch sticking out to where he can hop on or off my shoulder pretty much as he pleases.
It's definitely something he will notice. He already tries to burrow his beak into my ears sometimes, lol.
I'll just have to figure it out when I get them.

Yough might find that he leaves them alone. If he doesn't, he might explore them for a bit and leave them be. If not, have you tried target training him? If he chews them, you could always try targetting him away from them and treat him, eventually, he might learn he gets treated if he leaves them alone or plays with something else. Worth a try? Otherwise, invent in a good hat

When you are home, wear a hooded sweatshirt and keep the hood up. It can get a little warm, but it can be so helpful. This is what I do whenever Cupcake decides to fixate on removing something on my neck that should not be removed. It obviously blocks her physically from the location but it also makes her forget about whatever it is she has fixated on.

There's no doubt that Yoshi will notice the hearing aids right away. QPs rarely miss even the slightest change in appearance of their human slaves. There is a small chance that he won't touch them. My own choice would be to remove the hearing aids when the parrot would be on my shoulder, rather than having to banish the parrot from perching there. When I have to wear glasses instead of my contact lenses, Ralph always wants to remove them and chew on them (or toss them on the floor), so I have to take them off (and thus be unable to see anything beyond the tip of my nose). I'm sure if I wore hearing aids, they'd have to go too.

Got the hearing aids today, and sure enough he noticed them immediately. I had to grab him and put him on his cage while I took them out so I could spend time with him.
On another note, holy crap Quakers are loud.

hahahahahah, brilliant! At least you've got the option of taking them out to spend time with him. He will get used to them, but, as everyone else says, blocking his view/access might be a good idea. a beanie hat could work? And yes, they are loud! But they are lovely

It's a mixed blessing that quakers are loud...on one hand it can be REALLY annoying, but on the other hand they are better than guard dogs. Nobody will get close to your front door without you knowing, guaranteed! I hope you're able to protect your new hearing aids from being chewed. I imagine you'll have to quaker-proof them by hiding them in a special place.

Pretty glad I decided against that, for multiple reasons lol Hahaha, I heard that cockatoos can scream at something like 135 decibels! That's enough to burst ear drums if it happens close enough. I know of people who've used gun range headphones to block out the noise, and they can STILL hear the 'too screaming, even under the headphones!
