Hi everybirdy! I just want to check in and let you know that I'm still around. My health hasn't been so good lately and I'll be having surgery sometime in the next couple of months. I'll tell you all about it after the surgery. For now, I'll just say to all of the women on the forum... If you or anyone you know either have or are considering something called Essure, PLEASE Google it. I hope you're all doing well.

Hang in there Dani. You wont know yourself after the surgery. All those years of pain and suffering will be over. Thinking of you.

Sorry to hear your health hasn't been great, Dani... My wife and I briefly reviewed Essure at one point and decided it was bad news. I hope you are able to sort things out and are feeling better soon!!

It's horrible, Aaron! You and your wife dodged a bullet!

It definitely sounds like it! I'm sorry you are dealing with that, Dani. Its amazing how irresponsible things like this can be... they just want to make money. My wife did get the Gardisil vaccine, however, and has had complications ever since. Luckily not as bad as some of the cases out there, but still very irritating. There's some evil stuff out there.

I just googled it Dani, that sounds scary. I hope with surgery you will feel back to normal. Though many vacines help us, I do know someone who went blind after the gardisil vaccine. Most of her vision came back over time. Sorry your wife had bad side effects too Aaron

Well ... I googled both instances... and my heart goes out to you both. Sometimes in life it seems we are trying to make things better and then it back fires on us. Trust me... I know the feeling and it makes me even more sad... and at the same time angry as hell.

Very sorry to read this, Dani. I wonder why is it that medical drug and device makers are so free to turn women, and it is usually women, into guinea pigs.

I think they did this for population control.

I'm a member of the Essure Problems Facebook group and sooo many women were lied to when they were implanted.
I don't believe that I was intentionally deceived, but I wasn't told about the nickel and plastics that Essure contains or about most of the possible side effects. I was told that Essure is wonderful.
I don't think the doctor I saw was aware of some of these things.
Other women were intentionally lied to, though. Two young girls, ages 17 and 18, were implanted because their doctor told them that Essure is completely reversible. Others were also told the same thing. So sad.
The truth is, only a small handful of doctors, maybe 4 or 5 in the US, have the ability to reverse Essure. It costs about $7,000 and is not covered by insurance. The majority of women are having hysterectomies or if they're lucky, bilateral salpingectomies (taking just the tubes and coils).

Maybe get a group together and look at doing a class action against the manufacturer.

People are filing individual lawsuits, but because Conceptus (the original manufacturer - Bayer now manufactures Essure) got Pre-Market Approval from the FDA as a Class III device, neither Conceptus nor Bayer could be sued.
I don't really understand much of the legal aspect, so this may or may not be correct.
On March 1st the FDA recommended a black box label for Essure as well as more studies. From what I understand, the black box label opened the door for individual lawsuits to be filed.
Pre-Market Approval means that a manufacturer of a device must submit an application to the FDA with information about how the device is designed and manufactured as well as the results of all studies.
A black box label means that a medication or device has a significant risk of serious or life-threatening side effects.
A Class III device is one that is life saving or intended for permanent implantation in the human body.

Argh. This stuff makes me so angry. There's lots that's good about conventional medicine, but it has become so profit focused that I am of the mindset that it is best avoided unless absolutely necessary, especially when it comes to new products or pharmaceuticals. People's well being is definitely not the focus any more, if it ever really was. Doctors, for the most part, do not question convention enough, but still speak and act from a place of authority... but increasingly so they are unaware of dangers/complications/truth and passively become part of the problem. It's so hard to find a good doctor these days. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, Dani.
