Very cute! How long did it take her to get used to the shower, and not be nervous / afraid?

Thanks! Zim, Casey is pretty easy going, not much bothers her, except the mailman on our front yard! She is nine now and I don't remember when we first started doing it, We used to give her baths in a dish on the floor of the shower, but then I read on here that someone always took their bird in the shower so we started doing that. She was still under a year old probably and she enjoyed it right from the start. She generally whistles and chats happily while up on the door in the steam. She also always says hold on when I open the door, guess I used to say that in the beginning. When she is down on my arm in the shower if she wants a shower that day she kind of goes into a trance and just enjoys the spray, if not she will say want up and I will put her back on the door, nine times out of ten she wants to stay in the spray.

Oh wow! We had had Skye for a week before I tried to give him a bath. I just put a little water in the kitchen sink and he had a bit of a splash. Seemed to enjoy it. But this week I tried to do the same thing and he was not interested at all! So I didn't push the issue. Might have to try the shower then!

I've been introducing Yoshi to the shower with me each morning. He doesn't seem thrilled about it, but is getting used to tolerating it at least. You've given me a good idea, with giving Casey a bath in a dish on the floor of the shower. I think I'll start doing that with Yoshi, so he will hopefully associate the shower area with bathing himself. Right now, he will tolerate being in the shower with me, but does not want to get wet at all.

Casey might need to talk to Bonnie. At present Bonnie is disinterested in showers and won't have a bath more than once per week. Maybe I can make her a 'social story' about quaker parrot bathing and insert the pictures of Casey into it. Gotta say, these photos are adorable! Edit: I just held Bonnie in front of the computer screen and showed her your photos of Casey ("Look, Bonnie, look! It's Casey the quaker parrot having a bath!" - she doesn't recognise the word 'shower' yet). Her response? She did look intently at them then made her little grumbly noise…not too bad I suppose. I'm going to show her again!

Casey is another of the super-photogenic Quakers! She looks like a real sweetie.

Well someone looks like they sure enjoy getting wet! Bishop hates baths, showers, and being misted. Even watching Skye who loves water doesn't convince him. Recently I did put him in the shower with me one morning and he did tolerate it but he wasn't too happy about it. As long as he stayed out of the spray of water he didn't complain. There isn't really anywhere for him to perch in there though so I'm looking at getting or making a shower perch because even if he doesn't enjoy it now maybe he will change his mind eventually. Plus with quakers being from the tropical and subtropical areas where it's hot and moist just being there in the steam and warm air from the water has got to be good for him.

Thanks! Lol biteybird! I hope Bonnie catches on. And yes our house is very dry in the winter, the steam is good for her.

Those are really great pictures of Casey... I love how they look when they are wet. Oscar hates the shower... but that is okay as I prefer baths myself and do not feel like turning on the shower every time he wants to get cleaned.
Love the photos... thank you for posting them.

I have a question. Im very new to quakers. I will be getting my first in about a month. So how long after bringing her home do I wait before I introduce her to water? How should I introduce her to it for the first time? How many times a week can she play in water/get a bath? and does she dry herself or how do you dry her that way if it is cold she doesn't get sick?
Thank you!

I'm interested in seeing others responses to this as well, but I can tell you how I went about it with my little Yoshi.
I used (and still do) a pyrex dish filled with warm water. At first I put the dish on the counter in the kitchen area, and took Yoshi to it. I had him step up on the side of it, and I splashed the water around with my finger to show him it was there. He had no interest at all, and just wanted back to his cage immediately. This was maybe 2 weeks after I brought him home, and he was still afraid of being away from his cage.
We tried this a couple times with little luck, so the third time I moved the pyrex dish to the top of his cage. He immediately stepped down into it and began splashing around and making a mess!
We did it this way a couple times, then moved the dish into the sink. From that point on, it doesn't seem to matter where I place the dish, he's just happy to be taking a bath.
I try to dry him off a bit with a towel, but he HATES it. I still need to work on getting him comfortable with being wrapped in towels. He just chills on his cage and dries off over time.
Funny story, the night before last I fixed myself a cup of water (from the fridge, so it was COLD), and brought it back to my computer desk. Yoshi's cage is right by my desk, and he was on top of it playing. When I sat down, he immediately started looking at my desk and taking his "I'm gonna fly that way!" stance, which is my cue to transport him to that area (he's clipped). I thought it odd, as he never want's on my desk, rather he usually wants on my shoulder. I put him on the desk, and got up to use the bathroom. I come back just a moment later, and he has managed to climb up on top of my cup of water and is taking a bath in it! He didn't seem to mind that the water was COLD lol.

I think we tried Casey in a dish of water as soon as her cast was off, even before that she tried to bath in her water dish. From what I've seen they love water and baths, so maybe once your Quaker is comfortable with you, bring out a dish to try. He or she might surprise you and try before that in the water dish. Casey just cleans her feathers and dries herself off, for her that's part the fun.
