The thing about having all these critters is, you can't really do a lot of other things. We don't take trips, not even weekend overnights. I work really long hours, so my priority in my rare spare time is the birds. I had an emergency appendectomy a couple of years ago, and had to be gone overnight, and when I came home the next day, the first thing I did was go clean bird cages and hang out with them. LOL I couldn't turn over in bed without major discomfort, but I cleaned bird cages. It's a lifestyle choice to have birds, and you have to make sacrifices, and it's not for everyone.

Our birds are our family.

They absolutely are our family. Yoshi gets mad at me when I leave for a few hours. Just last night, I was gone for 4 hours out to eat with family. When I got back, the moment I opened the door Yoshi was contact calling me. I got half way to his cage and he started screaming at me (which is very rare). I immediately let him out of his cage and he just kept grumbling at me. So I sliced him up a jalapeno pepper (he loves those), he ate most of it but the grumbling continued until I put him back in his cage and covered it up for bed time lol.

I work late a lot. It's the nature of the business of covering news. Last night I got home pretty late, and Rocky started yelling at me and leaned so far off his door trying to reach me (I was across the room trying to get my coat off, LOL) that he darned near fell off. He rode my arm into the kitchen to get fresh water for him, and to start a pot of coffee for me, and while this may not sound like much, this is a bird who was once terrified to get more than a few inches away from his cage, and was afraid of everything. He sat on my arm quite content to let me run water and make coffee and joggle him around as I moved my hands to do these things. Clyde would have gotten annoyed and moved to my shoulder, but Rocky didn't. He could have; I let him sit there sometimes if he's in a calm mood.

I love the quaker grumble - Bonnie was just doing it now because both hubby and I got home from work one hour later than usual (how dare we!). She is now out and making us pay for our neglect.

Man that quaker grumble. Sometimes Cupcake will grumble at me for hours on end if the day starts off wrong. The other day I had to take a conference call right after I woke her up and that was NOT okay. She expects a bit of attention after waking up and since she did not get it, I got to listen to the quaker grumble ALL day.

Wow, really? That's remarkable. Cupcake has a very distinct grumble that is a way of expressing that she is displeased, but not to the point that she's going to scream about it. She uses it *constantly*.

Yup Casey can do the grumble... Like tonight after I covered her, I missed turning off one light ... I got the grumble....then I realized I missed a light. I went back turned it off and then she was quiet and ready to sleep.

I got the grumble this morning when I went into the birds' room to let them out and Clyde and Benjy took their customary places on my hands, and Jade flew over to sit on my left arm (Benjy was on that hand). Clyde immediately started The Grumble and scrambled down my shirt front to get to Jade to tell her off and order her to fly back to her cage. He objects mightily to her getting any attention, and even more mightily to her sitting on me.

Caseysmom, I know exactly what you mean - if I forgot to turn of a light, miss covering the cockatiels, do anything out of routine, I get screamed at - wouldn't mind hearing the grumble though. And then when I fix it to His Highness' satisfaction, I get called Monkey Breath

And then when I fix it to His Highness' satisfaction, I get called Monkey Breath I SO want to see/hear the Monkey Breath thing... I second this! Yoshi won't make a single peep after I cover his cage for the night. It's kind of weird, but I can't say I'm not pleased about it!
