Today I was cutting up a papaya that I bought earlier in the week that finally ripened and I knew the seeds were edible so I scooped them out and saved them. I gave a few to Bishop along with his piece of papaya and wondered if the seeds actually have any health benefits. Turns out they do and one of those benefits is liver health. Regularly eating a few seeds serves as a liver detox and papaya seeds are used as a treatment for liver cirrhosis. Just thought I'd add that as another option for supporting liver health since that was a discussion in this thread.

Interesting, thanks. I haven't managed to coax Peppy into drinking aloe juice yet, but I am coming to see it as better as a preventive than a corrective measure. I give both my birds dried papaya, as neither likes it fresh. I'll have to see if I can buy just papaya seeds. Probably would be good roasted.

If you can't find just papaya seeds one large papaya has a ton of seeds in it. That's what I have done because even if my birds didn't eat the fruit part I myself love papaya. I actually put ground papaya seeds on some chicken with some salt and paprika for dinner tonight and the whole family agreed there was no taste difference. It's supposed to taste just like black pepper and it did, only difference is the papaya seeds are full of healthy stuff.

I'm glad Peppy seems to be doing OK.
It's interesting the different uses for foods - I would never have thought of putting ground papaya seeds on chicken! It just goes to show how much I have to learn!

Just wrote.... papaya on my shopping list. Sounds healthy. It is healthy www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=47This page says that papaya (along with avacado and bananas) cause reaction to people with latex allergies though so if you are allergic to latex do not mess with papaya.
