Don't be sorry for 'rambling' (which you weren't); you just need a bit of support like we all do. It sounds as though your new cockatiel is very in tune with you, which is great. Have you named her yet? I still catch myself expecting to see our two old dogs (and the last one passed away in 2011). It does get a bit better in time, but you are in the 'raw' patch at the moment. I'm sorry you've had a tough time today and hope tomorrow will be better for you. Just take one day at a time.

I haven't named her yet. Namely because I'm not sure of gender... and I'm kinda waiting to see what name fits him or her. The store I bought the bird from I think was misinformed on the mutation of the bird. I have sent off for a DNA test. As my luck would have it, the mutation s/he is sexually monomorphic. I have a few names in mind, my favorite so far is Cookie. That could go for either gender... I'm just not sure it fits them yet. Cookie the cockatiel has a nice ring to it I think... lol

Ricky, I'm sorry that I'm so late here! I came to this section to check out another thread and am completely shocked to see this. I'm so sorry for your loss. On the other hand, it really does sound like your new baby is quite in tune with you. That's wonderful! A-hem......there's also a "General Pet Bird Discussion" section, and we would absolutely love pictures and updates, and stories, and questions..... When you are ready. Again, I'm so sad to read about Sonic. Take good care of yourself, and grieve however you need to. (((HUGS)))

I would love to share a picture with you guys, I know you have to use photobucket to upload pictures, but I can't seem get it to work. I will keep you guys posted. I'm a member of several other parrot forums, but I really feel like you guys are my friends. The others aren't near as friendly and willing to help. I appreciate all of you more than I could really express. If one of you could walk a computer dummy like me through how to post a picture that would be cool. I'm using an android phone as I don't have a computer at the moment. Thanks guys!!!!

But in looking at the site it seems you can't post a photo on the mobile version, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "desktop" for the full site. There are more posting options on the full site including attaching a photo.

I love this forum, particularly because of how intimate it is, and how much everyone truly wants to help. I do read the other parrot forums occasionally but I have not felt the need to be a member of any of them but this one. So, in order to post a photo on the forum, the photo needs to be hosted somewhere else. This means it needs to be uploaded to say, facebook, or photobucket, and then the direct link to the photo from those websites needs to be used to post here. Dani has created a thread with a how to: www.quakerparrotforum.com/thread/31/post-photosAnd if that's too much trouble, just email me the photos you want to upload and I'll post them for you. I'll PM you my email address.

Ricky, I can identify with what you've been feeling. After George the Amazon passed away, it took me weeks to remember not to say "Hello, George" whenever I came home and wait for his return greeting. And it was months before I could look at a picture of a Yellow-crowned Amazon without breaking up. Bringing Ralph home made a big difference for me and helped me to recover from losing George-- as I expect Cookie will for you. No bird can replace Sonic, just as none could ever replace George, but having another companion parrot does help to fill the empty space left by the parrot that passed away.

Sorry about George Garry. I miss Sonic so much!!! Even his loud screaming!!! The tiel is so much quieter... she has a lot to learn about being a bird. She is sweet though. (When she's not trying to remove my facial/arm hair that is.) need to figure a way to get her to quit that.... lol, it really does hurt though.

You can buy some wood and plastic beads, and bells, and make a "bird bracelet/necklace" for her to play with, instead of your arm/facial hair. See if that helps distract her.

Sorry about George Garry. Thank you. It's been almost six years that George has been gone, and I still miss that old grouch. Ralph is a lot quieter than George, whose screams could peel paint off the walls-- and Ralph isn't nearly as talkative. Every parrot has a unique personality, and it's fun to discover new things about a new parrot-- or even one that's been around a while. Ralph manages to find ways to surprise me all the time. Maybe your 'Tiel would appreciate some preening toys, but she may always prefer preening you. Our parrots can be so helpful in keeping us looking our best (though it does get painful sometimes).
