I have considered getting a parrot friend for my Quaker.
My questions: - how did you introduce your Quaker to a new family member? - how long did it take for them to get along? - how did you encourage their friendship?
Here's the pre-knowledge I have about buying friends for pets: - when buying a friend for a pet, never assume they will get along. Assume you will have two pets and if they get along, awesome. If not, that's ok too. - never put this new buddy in the same cage - if you introduce them, do so in a neutral setting. Basic territorial fighting is ok to establish who is "top birdy" but nothing intense. - it would be unkind to get a bird significantly larger/smaller than my Quaker
Knowledge about my Quaker: - in college I had a roommate who had bunnies. He HATED the bunnies with a fiery passion. He was jealous of the attention they got even when he received much more attention. - current housemate has hamsters. he screams and screams when he sees their little hamster balls. He stopped screaming but then decided to bite me. Which is fine. He's just upset. Maybe he'll realize they're not a threat.
I was considering getting an Indian ringneck or a sun conure.
My mom is an empty nester so if WORST case scenario it was war, she is happy to have a bird (she misses having both me and my Bird in the house. We've discussed it.)
