Gosh Dani, you need to get to the bottom of this. Something must be causing them. I didn't realise they were that bad (and frequent). Have you had your eyes checked yet? Have you got a date for the MRI? I am not hassling you - just concerned about you.

It is amazing how different everyone is with migraines and headaches in general. The first neuro that I went said, "well, we don't know what really causes them, you don't show signs of any neurological dysfunction, so not much I can do." I was like, really! We don't have many neuros in our town so I pretty much gave up and resorted to just dealing with my family doc. Eventually, I was on three different preventatives (propranolol, amitryptilene, and Topomax) at the same time and it wasn't helping. Topomax is an evil drug sent by the devil himself I think. I had horrible, multiple side affects with it. I went to a new neuro (the one I am seeing now) and the first thing he did was wean me off all but one preventative because he said studies showed being on more than one has no benefit. So, I went through months of trying new stuff and finally found the Divalproex. It isn't full proof, I still get some headaches but less frequently and no migraines in the last 4 months. I was having as many as 20 headaches a month, luckily not all migraines, but enough to affect my quality of life and my family's. Now I am down to about 4-6 that are less severe and more easily treatable. Everyone tells me as I get older they will go away. Well, I'm 44 and gray...time to go away! I have also tried massage therapy, which wasn't all that helpful. But, a massage therapist I now see for a lower back problem does Bowen Therapy, which is advertised to help with migraines and many other disorders from lower back pain to digestion because it stimulates the nervous system to heal the body naturally. I may give that a try in the new year and I also heard it is ultra relaxing. I wish you all the luck in getting to the bottom of yours. I had never heard of Midrin before. My sister takes Imitrex I think. Anyway, headaches/migraines suck. There...that feels better. Jeff

LOL I truly do feel like all of you are in my extended family, which is why I shared so much of this. I love being able to bounce ideas back and forth. I'm on Nortriptyline, and at my last appt my doc upped my dose from 20mg to 50mg....I asked her if I could work up to the new dosage slowly, and she said "Yes, I think that's a great idea." Last night was my first 40mg dose, and surprisingly I don't feel groggy at all right now. Hi Jan, no I haven't made an appt with the eye doctor yet....but I will, I promise! LOL I haven't gotten the approval from my insurance company, yet, for the MRI....hopefully soon! I'm concerned about me, too!

OMG, I'm absolutely SICK of these stupid things!!! I was in agony, (seriously, the pain was almost unbearable), from 8:30 to around 6:45 yesterday. I have another one now, and they're HORRID!!
The really good news is that I had an appointment with a new doctor on Wednesday, and that woman doesn't waste time. I like her a lot. I already have referrals to a neurologist who specializes in migraine, and an opthalmologist. Just waiting for them to call me so I can get appointments.

Much sympathy for you here! I hope they can resolve it, finally. Even when you don't have one, it must be nerve-wracking waiting for the next one.

It really is, Easttex. I'm afraid to leave my house...heck, I often don't leave my house, because I don't want to be stuck somewhere.
I've seen Cami a handful of times since November, and I miss her like crazy.

You poor thing. I hope the new doctor helps you to get rid of these horrid headaches. It is such a shame that they take away your enjoyment of life - and visiting Cami of course Good luck Dani - sending hugs to you.

Man, this sounds really rough. I have had some close friends with severe migraine problems and one of them also had a similar situation where she was afraid to leave the house without someone with her because of the risk that she might get a migraine and be stranded. I was with her on numerous occasions when they happened and witnessed first hand how debilitating it is. Really crappy stuff. I am sorry you are dealing with this and hope you get to the bottom of it soon!!

Not yet. My new doctor is convinced that most of the migraines are actually a withdrawal reaction to one of my medicines (it has caffeine in it). So that's good to know.
Some not-so-good news is that the neurologist who she referred me to is not in my insurance company's network. So I called them today to find out what to do, and my doctor would need to send in a Prior Authorization form, to see if my insurance company would pay for the visit or not. I went to see her yesterday for some other issues, and am going back in a couple of weeks, so she'll refer me to someone else (who is in my insurance company's network) at that point.
