Pidge stopped talking a couple of months ago. In the last few days he fluffed up and just wanted to sit on my shoulder making little grunting noises. I took him to the vet who did a poo analysis and found he had almost no good bacteria in his gut and the bad bacteria had overgrown. He is on 10 days of antibiotics and then probiotics. He picked up amazingly even after 1 dose and today, although he is not 100%, he is more chirpy and is saying "Hello Pidge" . Here was me worrying he was getting fat but he is down 84 grams. Vet was really good.
Thank you for kind wishes. He seems to be fine now but not sure what to do for Christmas. The place that looks after him said he can't come because his immune system is compromised. I can take him to Sydney but the house will be constantly full of strangers and very loud. Vet said it could have been a change of circumstances which caused the problem. I recently had a change of housemates which is hard for him to accept. I'm tempted to miss Christmas (which won't worry me) as I will see my family on the 23rd. PS 0.05 of a ml is very difficult to measure. By the time I measure it and then get pidge in a strangle hold I wouldn't be surprised if it disappeared.
Sorry to hear that lil Pidge is not doing well. Hope he has a speedy recovery. As for the antibiotic,is it liquid form that you use a dropper for? I hear there's some different ones out there that you either mix with water and put into his food or water dish. I had to do this with a cockatiel, dropper to the side of his beak, but man he hated that and would bite me even after I put him back on his perch.
