Connie may still come around, but I haven't seen her post in a very long time. She has been a saint to so many members of this forum, avian and human alike.
In December, 2010 she got a preliminary breast cancer diagnosis. Since then there have been many ups and downs, surgery, multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, and a benefit auction to raise money for her treatments. Today when I logged in to FB I got one of the biggest shocks of my life...Connie's breast cancer has reached Stage 4 and is now in the inoperable lymph nodes near her collar, three or four of her bones, and her liver.
If you believe in the power of positive thinking or prayer, please send them to Connie and her daughter Andie.

Just thought I'd give an update on Connie. She's been in and out of the hospital in the past months and it was touch-and-go at one point but she came back strong. She's back in the hospital again because of a bad reaction to her Chemo drug, here are Andie's FB posts:
From August 1:
Mom spiked a fever along with a racing heart beat & dropped pressure. Dr wanted her to head in. We're in triage right now. I'll keep you all posted.
From August 5:
Well I've been hanging out at the hospital w mom. I won't lie it's not easy. She's on a ventilator and 100% reliant on it at this point. Her lungs are inflamed and are like leather. They aren't sure if it a reaction to the chemo or an infection. She had a broncialoscopy (sp) and the samples will be cultures to answer those questions. She is very coherent and nods and shakes her head to questions moves her fingers, she tries to smile even though she is heavily sedated. It will be day by day, so please keep her in your thoughts and close to your hearts. I'll keep everyone updated the best I can at this point.
From August 15:
Well the momma is home. I'm sure after she gets a bit more adjusted and back to a routine, she'll be all over Facebook ^_^
From September 12:
Got the results from Mom's PET scan. It is not good news, but it could be worse. The cancer has spread to more bone sites and the affected liver areas have re-appeared but not showing much activity. A second lymph node from the collar area has become infected and is HOT, according to the report. There is now a questionable hot spot on her heart, but they are not sure of the definition of the spot, mom will need another echo to determine what it is for sure. The brain and lungs are still clear, so that is good news. ^_^
From today:
***Mom Update***
Mom is in route to Sacred Heart ER. Thank You Jeno for taking her! She is reacting to yesterday's chemo it looks like. I'll update again as soon as I get to the ER.
I have arrived at the ER and mom has been taken to get CT and then she will go for an MRI. She has already won over all the nurses in her section of the ER, and they were very quick to update me and tell me how sweet my mom is. ^_^ I'm upset she is here, but very thankful that SHMC has such great staff.
I wish I had better news. Mom will be staying at SHMC over night. The MRI came back with a 1 cm cancer spot in the right side of her brain. That explains a lot of what she has been experiencing with mobility issues and such with her left side the last couple weeks. Her cardiologist has dropped the ball in my opinion, ignoring the hot spot from her PET scan, and that will be investigated while she stays tonight I believe. Due to the pressure mom is feeling in her chest they are giving her some nitroglycerin to see if that helps at all. As to treating the brain, mom will be seeing a neurosurgeon at deaconess and they will set her up with a gamma knife surgery to remove the cancer instead of radiating her brain. Her O2 levels are fluxuating
Please send all the prayers, positive thoughts and warm fuzzies you can to Connie and her family.

Here is what Connie said tonight:
I did talk to my dr about it yesterday and because of all the issues I was having since I woke up this morning dr Thumma and the ER drs decided to do an MRI of my brain again. Tootie the spot they found today was not on the last MRI I had in June this is totally new. They didn't pick it up on the PET scan because the brain is to active and gives off too many chemicals to make for an accurate reading for a PET Scan so thats why it wasn't picked up until today. So they are keeping me in here overnight just to make sure nothing else develops by the way of adverse reactions to this new chemo drug and its side effects and to see if they can get this lymphodema to go down. The good news with all of these tests they put me through is that they ruled out any blood clots either in my lungs or arm and they are now thinking that the pressure I'm experiencing could possibly be from the lymphodema spreading into my chest wall so they have me on lazixs (water pill) to bring the swelling down to normal levels. It's slow going but I think it's working Instead of my bicep looking like a big roll of bologna it now looks like a five pound roll of hamburger in size. Lol. So because I was hurting so bad from that and because I was experiencing nausea like I've never experienced EVER before ( a side effect of the new chemo drug) I was pretty miserable when I woke up this morning and couldn't wrap my brain around any one thing causing all of it other than having an allergic reaction to this new chemo. And they told me if I had problems to go to ER so that's what I did

Connie's latest post:
Yesterday:
HEY Everybody, guess what I did today....LOL I went out and got Inked... Yes Yes I did.... LOL In fact I got 3 new tattoos just a few hours ago. LOL You'll hace to read farther into my long winded drivel understand . But I actually did get 3 new Tattoos...LOL
Went to see my radiology oncologist today. Poor guy must have drawn the short straw because he was the one who got to tell me that we are now going to be treating for quality of life not quantity. And that they'll keep treating , doing what ever is humanly possible for as long as I want to keep fighting. And until I say enough is enough then we'll just keep plugging along. The cancer...The skin cancer that has manifested itself as a rash looking area on my chest, under my armpit (where it started) and now all down my left arm, is a sign that the cancer has broken through the lymph system and managed to get into a blood vessel or the dermis lymphatic system...anyway...the way Dr. Lee described it was like a super highway where it can travel much easier and faster than ever before... Cancer is not only in my brain, but my liver pretty badly and it looks like it is trying its darnedest to get into my lung now, So this wasn't the news I was hoping for, but yet I was actually expecting it.
We can treat the symptoms and perhaps slow the process down by doing more radiation treatments in conjunction with this latest chemo that is supposed to be the most reactive with this type of cancer I have. SO, basically what Dr. Lee had to tell me was I have very few choices left. Not necessarily good choices but still viable options. That is, that I can either do nothing and let nature run its course or I could continue with the chemo and the naturopathic route, Or I can do that and do more radiation on my brain, which is a one time deal...no more to the brain after this. And then the radiation on my arm. So if I opt to go with the radiation then that means radiation everyday for a couple weeks maybe as many as 3 weeks. So since I've always said I wasn't going to quit fighting until I couldn't fight any longer, I've opted to do the full brain radiation and the radiation of my arm.
And then my big mouth daughter... ;-) asks Dr. Lee, if I would still be able to drive myself to and from my radiation appointments. And then the Axe fell. He said NO that I should have someone drive me from now on, and that I should not even be driving period anymore...because with the lesions on my brain, they could cause a seizure or any number of things and could possibly end up hurting someone other than myself in the process... So he was putting it in my chart that I was told that I should not drive anymore.
This just took the wind right out of my sails... Just one more step to losing my independence...something that I have taken pride in for a LONG time. And now I'm being forced to depend and rely on other people. When just yesterday I had been planning on offering to pick up and drop off one of my friends from ceramics who is getting to the point where she shouldn't drive either. And now I can't do that. I think I'd have rather heard them say...Oh by the way...we need to cut off your left arm.... At least I'd still be able to drive...and come and go as I pleased and not have to wait an hour for a stupid mini bus to come pick me up... And what am I supposed to do when I need to go to the store at 10 at night to get something to munch on? Or if I want to just go for a drive to get out of the house... I LOVE to go for drives by myself, to explore roads I haven't been on before Or to just go look at the fall colors or look for the first buttercups of spring. I know other people have had to do it. But most of the time they are much older than me. Hell my grandmother didn't quit driving until she was in her late 80's...and here I am not even 60 yet, and this **** Cancer has taken yet another thing from my life that has always been very important to me. My INDEPENDENCE. I mean I totally understand it...and I get it...but it doesn't mean I have to like it... You know what it does, it just PISSES ME OFF... That's what it does. And its not that it just PISSES ME OFF... It PISSES ME OFF ROYALLY!!!! LOL...
So, I've chosen to keep on fighting...I'm not ready to give up yet... I'm going to do the full Skull radiation and the radiation on my arm...So that meant I had to go get mapped for radiation...LOL And I even got to have my very own fencing mask made today...I get to wear it through each of my radiation appointments so that it holds me in the exact same place every time.. And I even got some new tattoos today... Or as they say...I got inked today! Whoopee... If you look real close and use all your imagination that you have you can now see the sunken battleship on my chest. LOL Or as the radiology tech said, if you can use your imagination and look into this little black dot, you can envision any type of ink you want! LOL Right now I think I have George Strait on one side, and Sam Elliot on the other side... LOL..
So not only have I lost my boobs, I've lost my potatoes and MILK but now my driving.... There's just a very few things more that it can take...and you best believe that I'm going down kickin' and screamin'
So that was my day... How was yours?
Connie is such an inspiration to me and many other people, please continue to send prayers, good karma, positive thoughts, etc. to her and her family.

I am afraid for her ... and if I feel this way, how must Andie feel?? Prayers are constant for Connie and Andie and Axel and Twyla and all her family. I hope they contact Hospice for her soon. That does not mean she will stop fighting, it just means they can make her more comfortable and offer support for her and the family. So sad to watch her struggle and know the ending coming soon. (Maybe sooner than she/we thought ) Much love and many prayers for Connie ... ♥ ♥

My heart is breaking as I post this. She hasn't lost yet, but the end of her battle is coming soon.
This is Andie, I wanted to post a note for those who are not on my personal list about my mom's condition. She is currently admitted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, and has been there for a week. We are not certain as to when she will be leaving the hospital, she is in chronic/constant pain and the medical team is having a hard time keeping her comfortable. After a CT scan when she first arrived, it shows tumors in her liver blocking bile ducts, one reason for so much pain. The cancer is spreading very rapidly, while she still fights her body is weakening. The doctors had told us previously she had weeks to months, that may or may not be the case now. We hope to have more information tomorrow after meeting with another care team.
I would personally like to thank all of you for your friendship and support for my mom over the years, the continued support we still receive today and the days to follow. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I keep hoping mom will be able to get on her facebook account and respond to you all herself, but she doesn't have her computer at the hospital, and her iphone is a little difficult to use being so heavily medicated. I will do my best to update both of our accounts as new information comes available and conditions change. She loves you all very much and is thankful to have been blessed with such fine friends and family.

Hi Dani. It's been a long time since I checked in here, but I keep up with what is going on with some of you in Facebook. I'm glad you started this thread because Connie and Andi are going to need all the prayers we can muster up at this time. Add mine to all of yours and I send hugs to all of you with love.

***mom update***
My Aunt Edith, Axel, Mom and myself met with a "care team" yesterday and I got some unexpected news too. Mom had met with Dr Thumma and has decided to continue treatment, radiation and chemo. She said she's not done yet and has a few things she wants to do, she's waiting for a sign letting her know her mission is accomplished before throwing in the towel... That was my unexpected news, because the conversation I had with her doctor was opposite of what mom told me, that the dr didn't feel mom could withstand more treatment. It's moms choice, but I can say I'm concerned about her pain levels with continued treatment. Time will tell. Moms hope is the treatments will give her a few more weeks. With as stubborn as she is, we may see her for many months, again time will tell.
What we do know is mom will not be able to go home and be on her own. It came down to going to an assisted living facility or moving in with me or Edith...well after considering our options, she will be going to my aunt and uncle's until I relocate or the other alternatives come to fruition. I couldn't get her in and out of my bathroom, its a one butt bathroom (Axel barely fits in the shower it's that small) its too small to assist her. So my aunt and Uncle have a nice open floor plan so mom can wheel about in a buggy and they have a couple cats she can play with.
I encourage you to visit her!!! Or take her out for a drive, spend time with her, on the phone, on Skype how ever you want to communicate with her. She definitely does much better when she is engaged with people!
Mom is set to be released from the hospital on Monday.

The end is coming very soon. Please send good thoughts to the family today.
Just got off the phone with the dr, mom has declined even more and is dying. I am on my way to the hospital now. The goal is to keep her out of pain until she passes and to do that she will not be alert. So if you planned on visiting, it will be a one sided conversation. I have decided to keep her in the hospital and secure hospice and we will be staying at the hospital in shifts until mom graduates. If you want to come say good bye, it's ok, if not that's ok too but please send her your love and a smile.

The most recent update:
Greetings! Wanted to give an update on mom. She is still experiencing a lot of discomfort and pain management has been an issue. Over night she was pretty agitated and unruly because she is frustrated that she can't get comfortable or let go. And she was cursing at us as we made her go to bed, she almost dropped the f-bomb. Well she was going to until we started teasing her about it. The delusions are a little more intense but no more frequent. She really enjoyed seeing her Bella Bean and Brandon a lot, and earlier her Brother Loren (aka my Uncle Boo) got a lot of loves and hugs out of her. She gave Shane his goose too! So the humor is still intact when she is comfortable. Which leads me to the next point I my update. I have conferred with the other family members attending mom at the hospital a we have decided unanimously that we should move mom toThe hospice house across from ST Luke's. we are so very fortunate that a bed is available, the coolest part... She can have her kitteh smudge with her. That makes us incredibly happy. And I can bring wicket for a visit too! Super cool! Visitors are still welcome and encouraged. We will just e at a nicer more intimate facility. ^_^
Thank you all for the support and well wishes, I could not do this alone and I so blessed and fortunate to have all of you in our lives. From the deepest reaches o my heart, I love you and Thank you!

I know, posting the updates is very hard but Connie deserves it. I want everyone here to know who she is and that she was and still is a major part of this forum.
Another update:
We have been moved to the Hospice house, and it is a beautiful facility!! I personally am more comfortable, and mom is actually sleeping. ^_^ that is good news. We are in room eleven, and visitors are welcome.

More updates.
1am:
*Mom update*
After a vitals check, the nurse said it doesn't sound like her left lung is functioning, she is starting to labor for breath. She still has a sense of humor though. After having a couple good sips of cranberry juice she burped, and excused herself...Twila told her there was no excuse and Twila got the ol' stink eye...lol.
Smudge has come for a visit, and mom has dug it...but he's starting to be a pest as she is trying to rest and I've tried to lie down for a nap by not staying put and being to wiggly for mom. I'm trying to convince him he needs to sleep with me...we'll have to see how this works out. He may have to go back home tomorrow if he can't be a little more polite. Lol
We have a vigil sitter, so I (and other family members who pull the over night watch) can get some rest as we stay with mom. My 7 hours of sleep over 2 days is getting to me. At least a couple hours anyhow.
Ill keep you all posted as things change or we get some funnies.
Note: Smudge is her kitty.
------------------------------------------------------------
5am:
Three o'clock this morning mom woke up and wanted to use the Commode...so we got her out of bed and on the seat and she was starting to doze a bit so I asked her if she needed to go potty or just wanted to sit on the throne...and surprisingly no stink eye, I got a big grin and a chuckle. I then asked if she was ready to get in the bed or if she was going to take a growler... She growled, smiled and winked. She is one funny lady!!!
On the flip side she is refusing oral medications now, so the only form of relief we have is her continuous med pump and the on demand button. Hopefully we can convince her to take the haldrol (sp) eventually, but it tastes horrible...I tried the "if it tasted good it wouldn't work very well" and "dr Thumma wants you to take it to be comfortable" but all I got was a clamped mouth and scrunched face...the Davis stubborn streak strikes again. LOL! I was literally going to write that when I came on here!!!
Well, as Jan Cullen says, Connie is one tough lady. More updates:
1:45am:
Mom had a big day with lots of visitors! She was happily engaging with her friends and family, hopefully she sleeps well and all night. She did drink quite a bit and has resumed taking her oral medications. ^_^. Her left lung sounds a little better than yesterday, according to her nurse. She is currently resting comfortably and I am staying the night so Edith and Twila can prep food for our impromptu "family hang with Connie day" tomorrow. Very excited to see the everyone after I rest and clean up after the changing of the guard in the morning. ^_^
------------------------------------------------
7:15am
Mom slept pretty comfortably and almost all night. I was up every hour and the nurses snuck in a few times to check on her and wicket let me know they were in the room...but I have to admit it was a lot more restful than the previous night. I know I slept better. ^_^

More updates:
8 hours ago:
Met today's day shift nurse, super sweet woman!!! Moms BP was almost normal and her heart rate is a little fast, but not too bad. She is having gut sounds, so that is good news. She went a couple hours with out a push of her pain med, but now we're playing a little catch up. She asked me to ten the heat up and for an extra blanket. She keeps rubbing her chest and tummy when she starts making her ouchy face so we're getting more signs when she feels discomfort, so either the pain is stronger or she's more lucid. She has been talking to me a bit more this morning and wanted a big hug. ^_^
-----------------------------------------------
6 hours ago:
Since my last update moms pain has spiked and I cannot keep her comfortable with her Dilauded, when given the haldol she tried to spit it out and was getting a bit obstinate and agitated. The constant push of dilauded will be increased and adivan will be added to the regimen along with her haldol (to reduce agitation). She may not have many wakeful moments until graduation, but she can still hear us even if she doesn't respond.

*Mom Update*
Mom is resting comfortably, for the most part, she has pain spikes that take a few on demand med bumps to get trough them. She is progressing as expected and it is fairly quickly. She isn't responding vocally, though she tries to make faces. Her skin is starting to yellow, due to decrease in liver function, her kidneys are shutting down also. Breathing is becoming more labored and the apnea is more apparent, but was worse over night. We're doing our best to keep her comfy.

All they can do is make her comfortable and make sure she is getting her pain meds as she needs them. My thoughts are with Connie for a peaceful journey into spirit. Thinking of her family as well as I know how hard it is on them.

It is with a VERY heavy heart and much sadness that I write this.
Update from Andie:
Mom has graduated, 3:08 am 3/4/2013.
Go with God, Connie, and rest in peace. Know that while you were here you touched so many people in many different ways. To many of us here at QuakerParrots.com you were a godsend. You will be greatly missed, and were very loved.
Peace and love.

Going to put my poem here to for connie "Weep not for me though I am gone
Into that gentle night
Grieve if you will, not for long
Upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul's at rest
There is no need for tears.
For all your love I was so blessed
For all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not,
the fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts
in your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life."

Weeza!!!!!
I've missed you, and am glad you stopped in! Yes, Connie and Andie have done so much for this forum for many years so I thought it was important to pay tribute here and keep everyone updated.
