Hello. As some of you may know I will be getting my first quaker parrot in the near future and I am trying to come up with some cheap ideas for toys or hang out spots in the cage. I have this old beanie that I never wear and thought if I hung it in the cage that it might just be a soft little perch area and that my quaker might enjoy it. But the beanie has small holes in it and some fuzz sticks out and as a precaution I wanted to know what all you think because I don't want my quaker digesting some of that little fuzz and or getting its beak or toes caught in the holes which probably won't happen because it is such a soft fabric the quaker should be able to easily take out their beak or toes, but what do all of you recommend?

Since you do have concerns about the safety of that old beanie, it might be better not to use it as a parrot perch or toy-- though undoubtedly most any parrot would have fun destroying it.

If you buy/make him a play stand you could use it on that and just supervise him when he is using it!

I do not think soft perches is something that Quakers enjoy. Not that I have heard of or seen yet. Most of their perches are wood or some type of hard material. They need to be able to wrap their little toes around it but not completely around it. One of the larger wood dowels seems to be my parrots favorite. He also likes the one with the hard grain on it as he uses it to file his nose on.
I am sure you are going to have loads of fun with your new little guy... let us know how it goes.
