Hello,
I'm a graduate student, originally from South Carolina, and over the past few years of school and work I haven't had much time to try and take care of our bird, Sam, originally purchased by my mother and sister spontaneously. I ended up being the only one really willing to take care of him, but that was made difficult after they brought a dachshund into the house and refused to help keep him away from Sam; at one point Sam was attacked by him, but luckily got out with minor injuries. Once I got busier with school, I tried to continue being social with him, but school on top of work on top of all of the loose animals they kept adding to the house made it difficult.
By the time I'd moved out of my parents house to an apartment (where I couldn't afford to keep him) he had started plucking his feathers. Since then I've ended up moving from South Carolina to Arizona to attend graduate school there. They flew me home for a while for winter break, and I found Sam in pretty poor condition. Despite my mother's insistence that she is taking care of him, I've found that they're pretty much taking zero care of the bird at all. His plucking is worse, it seems like they barely remember to feed him, haven't taken him to the vet for a checkup, haven't gotten his nails/wings trimmed, and on top of that it looks like he may have broken his toe long enough ago that it has healed back improperly. The worst part is, my sister is a veterinary technician and lives with my parents, but seems to care as little for him as they do.
If anyone here could take him, or if anyone knows anyone I could home him with or a shelter to get him taken care of properly, that would be great. It's kinda breaking my heart to know that my best feathery friend from high school is being taken care of so little.
Many thanks,
Thomas Tuten
